Print Competition requirements
Prints may be colour or monochrome unless otherwise specified. They can be printed at home or commercially produced. The minimum acceptable image size is 17.5 x 12.5cm (approx. 7" x 5"). All must be mounted on rigid card with a maximum mount size of 50 x 40cm. Each print must be identified on the back with the entrant’s name, a title and any other labelling that may be specified for the competition.
Note:- Only prints with mounts exactly 50cm x 40cm may be eligible to be selected for certain external competitions and certain XRR exhibitions where standard frames are used.
Print League Competitions
There are five print league competitions in the club season (May-September). Within each competition, entry is restricted to 3 open subject prints and one set subject print. There is no age restriction but an individual print may only be used twice as an open subject and once as a set subject. Images may be used in subsequent years' competitions as long as this restriction is not exceeded. Best-in-class prints are selected for each competition and the aggregate scores for each class are accumulated for the league trophies.
De Havilland Cup
The De Havilland Cup competition is not included in the print league and images which have been previously used to their limit in league competitions may be used again. Entry is restricted to 4 open subject prints. Images must not have been used previously in this competition. The trophy goes to the best individual print.
Submission
The preferred way to enter print competitions is to submit small, digital copies to the Print Competition Co-ordinator one week in advance or by a cut-off date, as advised. This enables real time recording of scores for record keeping and the creation of a digital library of club members' prints which assists the selection of prints for external competitions. Digital copies can be either directly derived from the image file or from a photograph of the print itself. The digital copies are solely for library use and will not be projected. For convenience, the digital copies can be formatted and sized as per PDI competitions, i.e. jpeg format, 1400 by 1050 pixels and sRGB colour space. They should be titled as follows: Author - Class - Title where class is "set" or "open". Note the space on either side of the hyphens.
The digital copies may be sent by email or supplied on digital media, to the print competition co-ordinator by the required date, in advance of the competition. If digital copies are not available, then titles alone should be sent. The prints themselves should be delivered on the competition evening no later than 7.45pm.
